Letter from our Dean
Dear Maple Village Families,

Welcome back to a new year!  I hope all of you had a restorative break.  I loved having our boys home from college.  There is nothing like having them back in their rooms, at the dinner table and everyone together.  One night, they all three jumped on each other for a friendly wrestle, and I flashed back to when I would shout at them, “Get off your brother!”  And now I was just laughing along with my men.

I am happy to say this week went very smoothly, aside from a few illnesses that still continue to spread.  Please remember to keep your children home if they show signs of fever, nausea, extreme coughing/congestion, etc.  From our Parent Handbook (p. 15):

Please be sure your child is well enough to participate in all activities before returning to school.  A child who has had a fever may return when their temperature has been normal for at least 24 hours.  Remember to advise the office of any contagious or transmittable illnesses so that the teachers and parents of exposed children can be notified.

We did come back to a HUGE mound of Lost & Found items, which are mostly jackets.  Often at recess, children shed their jackets and then forget to pick them up.  If they are labeled with names, this makes is much easier to get them back to you.  Please label all outer clothing (jackets, sweatshirts, extra shirts, boots, etc.) and water bottles, with your child’s name.

The next Discussion with the Dean will be on Friday, February 1st from 9:00 - 10:15 a.m., and the topic will be The Gift of ’No’.  This will be applicable to all ages.

Also, please save the date and line up childcare for our annual Experience the Grades on the evening of Tuesday, February 5th!  This is a once-a-year chance to come and be a student for an evening in a lower grades and upper grades class and allows an inside look at how we teach.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Lisa

Aftercare Wishlist

Hi Maple Village families!

Cleaning out some cupboards before the holidays?  Forgot to donate some stuff to the rummage sale?  Good news!  Aftercare is looking for a few more games and other household items for donation:

Please leave any and all items on the list in the Grove marked "Aftercare Donation". Thank you so much in advance!

Scrip Update

Hello Villagers,

Please place your Shop With Scrip plastic gift card orders by January 15.  As always, I can order cards as long as we are making more money than we are spending on shipping.  Some good cards to look into are for groceries (Vons/Albertsons, Sprouts), gas, and Visa and American Express cards, which can be used anywhere.  Work on your Scrip donation ($75/family in earnings for the school) to offset any extra payments at the end of the year!
