Letter from our Dean
Dear Maple Village Families,

This week we enjoyed our visit from Lou Harvey-Zahra.  She provided our Early Childhood teachers with a fantastic workshop on Positive Discipline in the classroom.  This includes identifying the values we want to hold in the classroom and then modeling our communication to children based on those values. These values include gratitude, kindness, patience, respect, helpfulness,  and “having a go” at something (I love Australian dialect). We also talked about helping children to literally breathe through things, what simple effective communication sounds like and working with motor movement through games.

Lou’s lecture that same night was outstanding! We had many parents express gratitude for her clarity in the stages of child development, what that looks and sounds like (with much humor) and how to reach and guide them through these stages with love. She also connected Waldorf education and how our curriculum meets them right where they are.  This lecture was recorded and will be available soon for a viewing fee.  Stay tuned!
Ms. Lisa’s desk, filled with Talking Rocks, Stacking Rocks, and Love buttons from Lou

Next Tuesday, Pam, Alice, Kari and I will be attending our regional ANA (Administrative Network of AWSNA) conference in Orange County in the afternoon. It is always so rewarding to gain the support of the seven other Waldorf schools in our Southern California region on many topics we all share.

We are gearing up for our first Grandparents & Special Friends Day on Wednesday! See information below.

Have a beautiful weekend,
Lisa
From the Office
Grandparents & Special Friends Day - Grades 1-8

Dear Grandparents & Special Friends,

You're in for a treat this coming Wednesday, October 24th, for our first-ever Grandparents & Special Friends assembly!  Each grade will shower you with the delightful nuggets of curriculum they've been working on.  Afterwards, you will get to hear our Dean of Education share what makes Maple Village such a special place.  Finally, your special day will continue in the classroom where students will show you more of their work -- main lesson books, songs, music and more!

If you have questions about the day, we ask that you contact class teachers directly.  Please also RSVP through your Evite if you haven't already!  This event is for Grades 1-8 families only.

Parents, feel free to send this message (or the whole Bulletin!) along to your child's grandparents and special friends :)
Coffee with the Board

Please join members of the Board of Trustees for an informal conversation over tea or coffee on Saturday October 27, 9:30 to 11:30 in the Social Hall. This is the first of a series planned for this year.
We want to know what's on your mind, how we can work together to support this vibrant community at Maple Village, and we will attempt to respond to questions you may have.

Tea and light refreshments will be provided.

As this is an adult conversation, please make other appropriate arrangements for your children. Childcare will not be provided.

On behalf of the Board, we look forward to meeting you there!

Darshi Balasuriya (President)
Elizabeth Seward (Vice President)
