Letter from our Dean
Dear Maple Village Community,

It has been wonderful to be back! Thank you for all of your support and excitement over our achievements as a school. Please visit our plaque and our certificate from Senator Kamala Harris in our hallway!

I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Grades Michaelmas Challenge Games at the park yesterday.  Thank you to our Games teaching team Ciana Lee and Annette Parry and to all our grades teachers for their work at each station. Up to this point, the students have been hearing stories of St. George and the Dragon. These are stories of meeting obstacles, rising to the challenges with determination and overcoming them

Upon arrival, our students and teachers formed a large circle and recited a verse of courage.  Then the students' names were called out and put into team families. These families are made up of members from each grade, so all children of different ages are working together. Our middle school students were their leaders, as at this age, they are ready for responsibility (and realizing the difficulties). :-)

Each family rotated to the different events, demonstrating their skills, taking risks, working through obstacles and most importantly working together as a team. For me, I was looking at one of the reasons our school stands out.  These children were working as a community. They were socializing with children they donโ€™t know well, listening carefully and following peer guidance and instructions.  The middle school students were able to help younger ones embark on new experiences.  The children were not competing, but were instead supporting each other and working together for the sake of their family.

If you have Grades students, please ask them about their experience!

Warmly,
Lisa
