Letter from our Dean
Dear Maple Village Community,

Guess what happened this week?!

Last month, I informed you that we were the one private school in the state to be nominated by the California Department of Education for the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon award.  Since then, we have just been waiting to see if we are confirmed.

On Wednesday, The U.S. Department of Education announced that Maple Village Waldorf School is among the 2018 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools award honorees!  We are one of only six private schools in the nation (there are also 40 public schools).
I received this from the Director of the program:

"This award acknowledges your school’s commitment to sustainable practices.  We commend your school for its leadership in facilities, health, and environmental education.  Your school is representative of promising practices to improve achievement and equity, not only for aspiring green schools, but for all schools.

We look forward to celebrating your accomplishments during a ceremony in Washington D.C. on September 19th, 2018 and to working with you to share your success story, so that others may learn from your example.”

In a follow up email to me, she said:

"Maple Village was one of the most outstanding nominees we received this year."

We just receive a quote from the Mayor of Long Beach:

"Maple Village has a great philosophy of having little to zero waste and farm to table education for their students, and I am proud that they have been selected as a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education” says Mayor Robert Garcia. “As a city that strives to be a leader in sustainability, we are happy to see our schools getting such recognition.”

You are able to read about our school here (on page 28):

So, once again - Congratulations to you all! We could not have received this without the dedication of teachers, staff, parents and students, along with the partnerships from the City of Long Beach, Tree People, and Farm Lot 59.  Thank you for walking the walk with us, and see you at the Gala tonight!

With appreciation,
Lisa

SAVE THE DATE! Last Parent Village Meeting of the Year!

Tuesday, May 29th
6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
MVWS Social Hall

Enjoy free childcare (reservation required) while getting updated on what our fabulous MVWS committees have been up to. We’ll celebrate what we’ve accomplished, "10 years and growing," and brainstorm an excellent plan for the exciting events ahead. New Committee Chairs will also be discussed, so start thinking about whether you would like to step in! Let’s not forget how important it is to come together as a parent body and be an active part of what makes MVWS so beautiful for our children. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Your PV chair, Reggie. :)

But right now we don’t have the photos we need to make it happen. We really need your photos. Like, really really.

We are making it even easier for you to share your photos. You can upload your smart phone’s pictures directly to your class’s Shutterfly Site (or email to mvwsyearbook@gmail.com). Please remember to include basic information about the photo.

Types of Photos we need...
