Experience the Grades

Tuesday, February 6th
6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

We invite you to come and be a Waldorf student for an evening. Experience the enlivening quality of Waldorf education taught by our own teachers in Lower and Upper Grades. Since we believe children learn better when interacting with the material, our evening will include activities your children experience in class, as well as open discussion with the teachers.

The Lower Grades Session will be lead by Ms. Katy, our 1st grade teacher, and Ms. Raine, our 4th grade teacher. In this session, you will experience math the Waldorf way, through 1st grade rhythm and rhyme to 4th grade fractions. Your teachers will provide insights into how foundations are laid in the younger years and how higher-level thinking is creatively encouraged in the middle years. They will also address and dispel some of the myths about Waldorf mathematics along the way.

The Upper Grades Session will be lead by Ms. Lynne, our 7th/8th grade teacher. In this session, you will learn how the Waldorf Curriculum instills beauty, truth, and goodness in your children. Ms. Lynne will lead the group in activities and discussion and will share stories illustrating how these qualities come alive in our students during their 8-year journey through Waldorf education.

Space will be limited, so call the school at 562.434.8200 or email info@maplevillageschool.org by February 2nd to reserve your spot. Reservations will be made on a first come basis.

Childcare is available for currently enrolled MVWS families only. Please call (562) 434-8200 or email info@maplevillageschool.org to sign up for childcare. Cost is $10 per child and $5 for each additional sibling, paid directly to the childcare provider. Thank you in advance for paying in cash upon arrival!

Scrip - Go Mobile!

Did you know that you can effectively install a mobile app on your smartphone to purchase or reload ShopWithScrip gift cards and use them immediately to pay for purchases?   To install the app, visit myscripwallet.com.  Once there, iPhone users can tap the up arrow icon at the very bottom of their screen (the icon that looks like an arrow in a square), then choose “add to home screen”.

On an Android phone, tap the menu button in Chrome (probably 3 dots at the top right corner of the screen) and then choose “Add to homescreen”.  If you use Firefox for Android, press the menu button, click the “page” option, and then tap “Add to home screen”.  An icon will now appear on the home screen of your smartphone.

The great part about using MyScripWallet is that you can finish your shopping or ordering, and then purchase a ScripNow e-card or reload another existing card right before you are ready to pay (we often order cards while standing in line at Whole Foods and Starbucks, or right before submitting an order on smile.amazon.com).  The clerk will scan the barcode on your phone and you can pay any remaining balance with cash or credit/debit card.  Any unused gift card balances can be used at a later time.

Remember to watch for ShopWithScrip bonuses (sometimes up to 25% scrip rates) and to complete any online ordering through either smile.amazon.com or escrip.com to double up on scrip, earning through both the website and a purchased e-card.

Need help signing up for Scrip?  Get hands-on assistance at the Parent Village Meeting on Tuesday!

Evergreens Love The Getty!

While we saw many fine masterpieces, we each chose three different works of art to do a more in-depth observation.  We then completed a write-up on all three.  We will include our observations in a essay.

We saw some great art, great architecture and a wonderful garden too.  We spent most of our time in the Medieval and Renaissance galleries, while the Shady Trees visited the Latin American exhibits.  We viewed artists, styles and themes that we have the studied the last two years. It was all amazing!
