Letter from our Dean
Dear Maple Village Families,

We are entering the final week before break, and the halls are filled with energy. I know there are many festivities planned for next week, so rest up! Please remember that our last day of school for 2017 is Thursday, December 21st. There is no school on Friday, December 22nd, but if you would like to bring your child, Ms. Raine still has space in her holiday baking class (see below to reserve spots)! School resumes on Monday, January 8th.

Our Winter Spiral was just beautiful. Thank you to Hospitality Committee Chair (Marissa) for gathering pine boughs, and to our teachers, staff Parent Village Chair (Reggie) and Poppy/Sunflower parents for setting up and cleaning up from this annual ritual. Our gratitude to Andreas and Ciana for adding lovely music as well. And, of course, thank you to parents for coming during the day to watch your children participate. I feel so much of the children's personality comes out when they walk the spiral. It is amazing to behold.

If you wonder whether the spiral impacts our students, look at what our youngest children did in after-care the next day:
Quote of the week the day after the spiral:
Child 1: “I am never touching a pine needle again!”
Child 2: “What if you want to be a bird?”

Have you taken your 10-second Transportation Survey yet? Please do, as it helps us! (See email sent yesterday and/or post below).

With appreciation,
Lisa

Pennies with Purpose

We are nearing the home stretch with our fundraising efforts for a family in need. The children have taken hold of this campaign and really stepped up to the challenge. Some classes are holding a competition with me on who can raise more. I’m pretty sure I losing that race. Please help us these last 5 days and help a family feel our spirit this holiday season. If you have any questions please contact Pam Villano at 562-434-8200 or

Toy & Food Drive

* If you would like to come wrap toys or work in the food bank, please join us TOMORROW, Decemeber 16th at 8:00am at the church! *

Hello Maple Villagers,

It has been a long time since I have played the role of the village crier and how gladly I embrace this role especially now, for a mightily mighty good cause!

Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear ye!

As we face the holiday with glad hearts and tender feelings towards our family and friends, I ask that we remember those neighbors out there in our greater community who struggle to put food on their tables and to whom holidays occasion moments of sadness because gifts, such as toys and books, are impossible luxuries beyond their reach. For these neighbors in need--so that their households may shine with our light of giving and gratitude--I ask you to reach within your own home and share the surplus that is within your reach.

Please donate gently used toys and books so that these may be wrapped, ordered by age group, and gifted to less fortunate children this holiday season. Imagine how a forgotten toy in your child's room might delight another child, who expected little or nothing knowing her family's circumstance. I have watched parents come to the church, the weekend before Christmas, with ages and names of their children and take away a gift for each child with smiles of profound gratitude upon their faces. This, I believe, is the true gift of these holidays.

Should you also want to donate nonperishable canned and boxed goods--such as organic beans, soups, sauces, pasta, etc.--we also welcome them.

There will be two large drop-off boxes in the Grove Room for your donations. May they overflow with your generosity!

I hope that I have cried well and clear!

Thank you for hearing me,

Cathrine Ji
