Letter from our Dean
Dear Maple Village Community,

I have two important messages pertaining to this weekend:

The first is a reminder that Monday is a student-free day due to our Faculty In-Service. This day is designed for our lead faculty members to visit teachers at different schools in order to gain insight and ideas for their classes at MVWS. We will see your sweet children on Tuesday!

Secondly, what are you doing tomorrow? I have a great reason for you to head to Pasadena.

In last Friday’s bulletin, I informed you of a great opportunity to listen to Jack Petrash speak about how Waldorf Education prepares our students for our current time and why this education is so relevant today.

I went to the lecture at WSOC on Wednesday night and saw a handful of our parents and teachers there. I was so impressed with his talk. Mr. Petrash has taken a class from 1st - 8th grade four times, and founded the Nova Institute with the mission

“to build a bridge between Waldorf Education and contemporary educators to encourage dialogue and a sense of common purpose” as well as “informing Waldorf Schools about effective and innovative work being done in American education today.”

His wisdom and experience certainly comes through. He is engaging, humorous, and shares a lot of information on results of studies and the parallel to Waldorf Education. Perhaps most importantly, he is a wonderful story-teller!

If you are able, I highly encourage you to attend his talk at the Pasadena Waldorf School tomorrow from 11:00 - 1:00. (See flyer below). It is free and open to the public. Plus, Mr. Basil and Mr. Dan are going!

Have a beautiful weekend,
Lisa

Quote of the Week

From a Kindergarten Student:
“I just want people to play with me, and I don’t know how!”

This is why your young children are here! While many schools are removing the toys in the Kindergarten rooms and replacing them with desks, worksheets and pencils, we recognize that play and learning the tricky navigation of social interaction is an essential part of early childhood education.

Come back next week for another quote!
